Home Office Feng Shui
When you work from home, it's even more important to have good feng shui in your office.
Why? Because your home is your sanctuary; it's where you live and love and laugh and play, and bringing negative work energy into the mix can impact more areas of your life, and more people who are significant to you, than it would in an office outside of your home.
The good news is, because it's in your home, you have a lot more control over your environment! So here are some home office feng shui tips:
1. If possible, locate the office in your success, career or wealth areas.(
consult the bagua map for home office feng shui tips for areas of your home)
If your office needs to be in the relationship area or career area, or any other area, it's OK. All of the other areas can indirectly (or directly) enhance your work as well.
2. Don't place your office in your bedroom. This is done fairly often, and it should be avoided. Your sleeping and working areas should be separate. If you must have your office set up in your bedroom, create a natural divider (large area rug and screen for instance) to clearly delineate where your bedroom stops and your home office begins.
3. Make sure your office has a door that closes. Your home office should be separate. One of my clients has to have her linen closet in her home office space (she is using a guest bedroom for her office, and has no other space for her linens). I advised her to make sure the door to the linen closet stays closed except when removing or stocking linens. This will keep her office sacrosanct as an office while she's working.
4. Keep clutter and non-office items out of the office. You need good work energy flowing here, not baby bottles that will spill!
5. Even if you don't see clients in your home office, set it up as if you do. Have a guest chair opposite your desk, make certain the furnishings are attractive, and everything is neatly organized. You may even consider putting your business name on the outside of your door, "World Headquarters of XYZ Company."
6. Give your office and desk the feng shui bagua treatment too. Enhance the areas of your desk and office that you'd like to see more energy in. Need more of the green stuff? Consider employing some of the feng shui wealth tips in your wealth area.
