Feng Shui Symbol History

The origins of Feng Shui reach back thousands of years. The translation of Feng Shui is “wind-water”, two essentials to sustain life on this planet: air and water.

Feng shui: wind and water Like other Chinese practices, much of the philosophy is based on the principles of the I-Ching, also known as the book of changes that documents the shifts between positive and negative. Over years of observation, symbols have evolved to evoke a symbolic representation of the ideal trait or quality.

Various traditional symbols include the following subjects:

Fish, birds, frogs, horses, cats, dogs, mythical creatures, reptiles, monkeys, and many others have been observed in nature and said to have certain qualities. The belief is that their presence (either in live form or art, statues, etc.) can enhance these traits or qualities for humans.

Numbers and other symbols

Feng shui symbol: numbers, shapes In addition to numbers, geometric shapes of triangles, rectangles, squares, circles held significance to the relation of heaven, human and earth. These shapes also signify and embody one of the five elements. There are also eight trigrams that represent meanings. These are often found around a bagua.

Colors

Colors are very personal, as are any symbolic representation. If a particular color is 'good feng shui' but you hate it, it is not good feng shui. The very definition of "symbol" and "symbolic" is that it stands for something else.

feng shui symbols should speak to your heart Your interpretation is paramount
An important point to remember is that feng shui symbol history evolved with the premise that if a person associated happiness with a song bird, then having pictures or representations of song birds in one’s environment would promote happiness. The best symbol is one that resonates with your own beliefs and culture, and your own heart.
