Feng shui rules to live by

There are many feng shui rules, and outlining them are several schools of feng shui. Each school or lineage emphasizes certain aspects of the art. From these schools, a person new to Feng Shui hears many “rules.” Sometimes, these rules may conflict between the schools. What's a beginning feng shui-er to do?

Feng shui rules are not carved in stone. They are alive and flexible like the fern We often hear phases like, “it is bad Feng Shui to [fill in the blank].” Honestly, the most important guiding rule of feng shui, no matter what anyone says is, “Does doing X uplift you, make you feel good?”

When you are dealing with a specific area in your life that you want addressed, be it romance, wealth, career, friends, health, spirituality, family, or children, use the feng shui rules relating to the bagua map to determine what might be holding you back in that section of the home.

There is so much to feng shui, and many schools that will move you far beyond the bagua map, but for starting out, you are most likely to find issues that need to be addressed and can be addressed by identifying the areas of your home with a simple bagua.

The second rule to guide you, should be, “When you made an adjustment, did it make a difference?” These two questions move you out of the absolute rules, into the heart of the situation. At that point, you are able to make positive changes you need to make.
